Tether to Launch USD₮ on RGB, Expanding Native Bitcoin Stablecoin Support

28 August, 2025 – Tether, the largest company in the digital assets industry, today announced plans to launch USD₮ on RGB, a next-generation protocol for issuing digital assets on Bitcoin.

RGB recently reached mainnet with its 0.11.1 release and has been designed to make Bitcoin more than just a store of value. By enabling private, scalable, and user-controlled issuance of assets, RGB opens the door for stablecoins to exist natively on Bitcoin. For Tether, this means USD₮ can be transacted directly on the world’s most secure and decentralized network, bringing fast, private, and lightweight payments to billions of people globally.

By bringing USD₮ to RGB, Tether is helping to unlock a new frontier for money on Bitcoin. Users will be able to hold and transfer USD₮ alongside their Bitcoin in the same wallet, enjoy the benefits of private and sovereign transactions, and even send and receive value offline. This combination of Bitcoin’s security and Tether’s stability represents a major step toward making stablecoins truly native to the Bitcoin ecosystem.

“Bitcoin deserves a stablecoin that feels truly native, lightweight, private, and scalable,” said Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether. “With RGB, USD₮ gains a powerful new pathway on Bitcoin, reinforcing our belief in Bitcoin as the foundation of a freer financial future.”

This announcement underscores Tether’s leadership in expanding the reach of stablecoins and its commitment to ensuring Bitcoin remains not only the original cryptocurrency but also the bedrock for global, everyday money.
